There is something I am very sure we have done at one point
in our lives- snoozing an alarm! There is that moment, usually a split second,
when you put the reason why you decided to set the alarm in the first place and
the allure of your bed on an imaginary scale of importance, and usually the
attractiveness of sleep comes out looking like the American president, and your
task like a whiff of smoke.
Of course, I recognise that some people need what is termed
“beauty sleep” but I reckon that for most of us, sleeping longer hours will
sadly not make us more beautiful, rather what might work for us is getting up
from that comfortable memory pillow, getting some work done and then buying
products that can make us more beautiful. Okay, I know I have jokes.
I must say that for some reason, it appears that the hours
are now much shorter. Before our 20s, we were probably able to do a lot of
things within 24 hours, ranging from watching several hours of a television series, to
studying for school and also hanging out with friends. It seems like we were
able to somehow strike that balance between having a great time and doing the
minimum required to either excel in school or vocational training.
So what makes the 20s different? A myriad of things
actually, for example if you work already, you might be completely knackered at
the end of the day and if unfortunately, you are in a job that you don’t like,
you will not get the time or the strength to develop or spend time with those
things that you like to do at the end of the day, hence the frustration that
comes with this age.
Waking up early might seem like such a little thing to do to
improve your life, but I believe that it’s the little things that matter. I remember
reading something which goes roughly like this- a dream is that thing that
keeps you awake. All I have written above may not be enough incentive for you to wake up early, as I know
some people respond more to scientific and logical explanations, thus I whipped
out a calculator and came up with this theory and these statistics.
Theory- The hours you sleep daily is directly proportional
to the number of years you spend asleep (Duh!!! I’m getting a kick out of this!)
Statistics-

Clearly a fair amount of our lives is spent sleeping, (this
does not include afternoon naps and dozing in class by the way). Please do not
let your life go by while you are sleeping. You can save 9 years of your life by sleeping for 6 hours instead of 9.
Action Plan- This week, wake up an hour earlier than you
usually would and dedicate your time to something that makes you happy.
